Become a Convoy Driver
Your role
As a Convoy Driver, you are at the forefront of our operations, steering the delivery of vehicles and aid to Ukraine. This hands-on role is for those who want to be part of the physical journey, experiencing the impact of their contribution first-hand.
Convoy4Ukraine aims to simplify the process for our volunteer drivers as much as possible. Find out more below.
For Drivers:
Convoy4Ukraine will:
Identify and help procure appropriate vehicles and aid
Service and MOT all vehicles for free
Organise the route, hotels, ferries and flights
Fundraise and provide support to individual fundraising efforts
Organise the convoy communications, health & safety and logistics
+ Sunflower Network will:
Identify suitable recipients of our vehicles and humanitarian aid
Arrange the customs and transfer of ownership documentation
Accompany the convoy across the border
Organise the handover ceremony and lunch
Arrange transport back to our hotel in Poland the same day
You will:
Fundraise £3k to help with the purchase of your vehicle
Pay the car insurance and keep receipts for claimable expenses (fuel, road tax)
Come on convoy!
Financial contribution
To participate as a Convoy Driver, we ask for a contribution of £5,000. This amount goes towards the purchase of a second-hand 4x4 vehicle that you will drive to Ukraine.
Your contribution ensures we can continue to supply our Ukrainian partners with the vehicles they desperately need. Students applying as drivers have the option to team up with a partner, also a driver, to jointly meet this contribution goal.
The purchase of a second-hand vehicle
The cost of insuring you as a driver on the vehicle
The cost of fuel for your journey
Your accommodation costs for the duration of the convoy (Side note: This part is usually your individual contribution into your fundraising)
Transportation costs (Ferry to Dover + flight back to the UK)
What your contribution goes towards
Food and drink throughout the convoy
Tourism/non-convoy related activity
Any medical costs incurred
What your contribution does not cover
Requirements
You should have a valid driving licence, fundraising initiative to meet the contribution target, and a commitment to the journey. You should also be comfortable driving for long periods of time, as we usually drive in stints of 2-4 hrs.
Please note that the contribution for the driver role is based on the average cost of insuring a driver for the duration of the convoy. If your circumstances mean that you have much higher than average insurance costs (for example, in the case of drivers under 24), you may be required to cover the difference.
